June is Men’s Health Month.
A perfect time to raise awareness around a topic that often gets left out of the conversation among all the momentum around women’s pelvic health on TikTok and Instagram: men’s pelvic health.
Yep, men have pelvic floors too. And when things aren’t functioning the way they should down there, it can affect everything from daily comfort to confidence in the gym, the bedroom, and beyond.
We specialize in treating real men with real pelvic health conditions and we’re here to break the stigma and offer real solutions.

What Problems Does Pelvic Floor Therapy Treat in Men?
Honestly? All the same issues that we treat in women! Bladder problems, bowel problems, sexual health problems, and pain problems!
Here are just a few of the common pelvic health conditions we treat in men:
🔹 Pelvic pain (aching, burning, or pressure in the pelvis, perineum, testicles, or tailbone)
🔹 Urinary urgency or frequency (feeling like you always have to pee)
🔹 Urinary leakage (yep, men can leak too, especially after prostate surgery)
🔹 Erectile dysfunction or pain with intimacy
🔹 Hard-Flaccid Syndrome
🔹 Constipation or straining with bowel movements
🔹 Fecal leakage, poor bowel control, and constipation
🔹 Prostatitis (even when infection isn’t present, also called “chronic pelvic pain syndrome”)
🔹 Pre and Post-prostatectomy rehab (helping restore continence, confidence, and function)
🔹 Hernia recovery or groin pain (especially in athletes or post-surgery)

So What Causes These Issues?
The pelvic floor is a group of muscles, just like your biceps or hamstrings. These muscles can get tight, weak, uncoordinated, or overworked, and when that happens, the symptoms show up in ways that feel confusing, embarrassing, or frustrating.
Sometimes these issues stem from:
🔹 High-impact sports
🔹 Chronic stress or trauma
🔹 Surgery (like prostatectomy or hernia repair)
🔹 Lifting injuries
🔹 Long-standing constipation or straining
🔹 Postural dysfunction and poor core coordination

What Does an Evaluation Look Like?
The evaluation is tailored to the problem you are experiencing. Sometimes it’s only one thing, other times there are multiple problems going on that are often all connected.
You will complete a medical history questionnaire that your therapist will review before your first appointment. At your first appointment, your therapist will review your answers to ensure we have a full picture of your problem.
If there are any functional movements that you have symptoms with (i.e. pain, leakage, etc.), then we may take some time to watch you move through those patterns.
Your strength and mobility will be assessed throughout your core/abs, pelvis, and hips.
If you’re comfortable, we will also do an external and/or internal pelvic floor muscle exam. The internal exam is via the rectal canal. While the internal exam is optional, it provides your therapist with the information to appropriately treat your problem so that you can get back to living your life.
Finally, a care plan will be provided to you with steps for your recovery so you have a clear plan on how to heal and recover so you can achieve your goals.
What Does Treatment Look Like?
We take a whole-body, whole-person approach to pelvic health. You’ll get:
🔹 A thorough evaluation (no cookie-cutter plans here)
🔹 Manual therapy to release tension or improve mobility in areas that are deficient
🔹 Neuromuscular re-training to reconnect your brain to your pelvic floor and core
🔹 Exercise prescription tailored to your body and goals
🔹 Education so you understand what’s going on and how to fix it
We know it takes courage to speak up about pelvic floor issues. But we promise you’re not alone, and you’re not broken. And the good news? These symptoms are treatable.
